Where To Go…What To See

The sun is warm. The surf is high. Go on, enjoy the views and relax. It’s your vacation. When you’re ready we’ve got a lot more for you to see and do during your stay in Virginia Beach. Try one of our day plans — or several — to take in the sights and take in everything the city has to offer.

To help you get started we’ve pre-planned a few day’s activities you can choose from or you can create your own adventure.

Nature Lover’s Day

The oceanfront is just one of the many natural attractions to enjoy during your stay here. Beat the crowds by getting to the Virginia Aquarium early — see the exhibits, especially the Kimodo Dragon and take a water tour on Back Bay. Later, perhaps after lunch at a boardwalk restaurant like Catch 31, take a hike through the scenic, winding trails of First State Landing Park, or the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge, where you’ll be able to watch local birds, aquatic life and other creatures in their natural habitat. In the late afternoon a walk on the beach is a great time to see the pods of dolphins that visit close in to the shoreline. A sunset cruise with Rudee Tours is a perfect way to see the beach from another perspective. After dinner you may want to return to the shore if the moon is out, or check out some of the Virginia Beach nightlife at the 7th Street Stage next to Mahi Mah’s, and enjoy the free entertainment in season.

For Kids Of All Ages

There’s no limit to the fun you can have in the Virginia Beach Resort area whether you are a kid, or just want to spend the day playing like one. Have breakfast at Mahi Mah’s, at the south end of the boardwalk, then spend the morning at the Ocean Breeze Water Park, or if you’d prefer, Motorworld, where you can race go karts and see who really is the leader of the pack. After lunch at Gusto’s, a rousing game or two at Pirates Paradise Mini Golf will get your competitive juices flowing. As the day comes to an end, you and your children may want to relax at the IMAX Theater at the Marine Science Center, before you head back to your room and a well deserved rest. For dinner, consider a walk on the boardwalk to JT’s Grommet Island Park or Neptune’s Park, followed by dinner at Catch 31.

All Sports, All The Time

Don’t just sit back and look at our oceanfront, get out there and enjoy all the great recreational opportunities we have to offer. Maybe a morning swim is in order, followed by a snack at Starbucks and some Tennis at Owl Creek, or if you’d prefer 18 holes of golf at one of our nearby courses. Of course you can usually find a pick up game of Volleyball on the sand, or get a birds-eye view of our magnificent coastline while you’re flying above the beachfront with Rudee inlet Parasail. Enjoy lunch at Mahi Mah’s and then head over to Rudee Inlet for some fishing or rent a Jet Ski and take in the ocean from a different view. You may want a rest before dinner, you deserve it after the day you’ve had, then head over to Salacia for a beautifully aged steak cooked over a hardwood grill to your personal specifications. After dinner, drinks on the patio at Catch 31 can add a little spice to the evening and in season you’ll be treated to free entertainment at Neptune’s Park next door. Whether you’re in the middle of the action or cheering from the sidelines, you’ll feel the exciting pulse of the Beach wherever you go!

A Day Of Sun & Surf

The Beach offers all kinds of treats for those who venture a few miles from the oceanfront, but nobody said you had to. Maybe the whole point of going is to change the pace of life a bit. Breakfast at Tortugas, and watch the early morning unfold by the poolside. Sunbathing and reading in the morning is the perfect time to enjoy miles of clean sand and sparking ocean, or if you’re in the mood for surfing, you can rent a board or get some instruction from Chesapean Outdoors. After lunch at Mahi Mah’s, you can try a different kind of water adventure; like Kayaking, or perhaps you’d just like to bike the boardwalk and do some people watching. The Boardwalk and 31Ocean have everything you need including some fearsome challenges from on high. If adventure is your name, try Parasailing above our pristine beaches. An afternoon siesta on the beach soaking up the rays is the ideal tonic, then get ready for an evening of music, dancing and entertainment at Catch 31 where you can enjoy the nightlife on the open air patio, and savor the freshest of fish and an awe inspiring raw bar. Finally, as the reflection of the moon sparkles in the water, you can mellow out to the entertainment at Neptune’s Park right next door.

Arts & Culture At The Beach

Virginia Beach plays host to a vibrant community of artists and performers. Start your day with breakfast at Catch 31, then take a leisurely walk to the nearby 21st Street Art Gallery where you can pick up prints of seashore and beach scenes along with original artworks by local artists. When you’ve finished, head over to the Contemporary Art Center of Virginia; a great place to see unusual collections and special exhibits. After lunch at Soya, take a turn around the shops at 31Ocean for imported arts and crafts from Europe and Asia, and other fun gifts. Then head down to the Old Coast Guard Museum for a glimpse of the past on Virginia Beach. In the evening you might consider taking in a performance at the Little Theater of Virginia Beach — they perform throughout the season — or you can spend some time taking in the Boardwalk’s outdoor sculpture and shows. Any description of the arts scene we could make here would only scratch the surface. See our Events and Entertainment section to explore the Beach’s creative side in greater depth.
